Frances Magdaline Shari went to be with her Lord, and beloved husband Sherman, on March 22, 2018, at the age of 93. She was born in Bad Axe, MI on April 19, 1925, one of nine first generation Irish-American children of John and Frances (Dudeck) Minnick. Frances helped to tend the family farm, then moved to New York to study cosmetology. During wartime, Frances worked as a real-life “Rosie the Riveter”, building bombers and cargo planes for the military. She resumed her career working for I. Magnin, but eventually Frances returned to Michigan where she had a salon for several years. About this time, she met the love of her life, Sherman Byron Shari, whom she wed on June 6, 1953. They settled in Detroit, MI, and, after Frances closed her salon, she worked for the remainder of her career at Jacobson’s in Birmingham, MI. She and Sherman enjoyed golf, bowling, gardening, travel, and raising their children. Frances was a member of the Ladies’ Altar Society, and the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. Following retirement, she and Sherman relocated to Lighthouse Point, FL, and Kalamazoo, MI, where she took pleasure in making new friends, dining out, attending concerts, and being active in 4H activities. Frances is survived by her children, Elmer James (Carolyn) Shari, Gary Lawrence (Susan) Shari, and SuzAnn Teresa Shari-Werkema; daughter-in-law, Esper Shari; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman; son, Sherman Byron Shari; and siblings, Cecilia, John, May, Barney, Elizabeth, Margaret, Lawrence, and Roseanne.
