In accordance with his wishes cremation will take place and a memorial celebration will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at 11:00 AM, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 631 Grand Street in Allegan.

Age 87, passed away at Borgess Medical Center on April 11, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Kalamazoo on April 19, 1930, the son of the late Harlow L.C. and Dorothy E. (Marlette) Steffey. Harlow was a kind and loving man who was a joy to know. On September 7, 1950, he married the love of his life Dorothy M. (Darnell) Steffey; they remained united for more than 67 years. He was a hard worker who retired from Checker Motors after 44 years of service. After retiring Harlow would spend his summers working part-time at Crestview Golf Course. He loved to play golf and made many friends around the clubhouse. Harlow and his wife, Dorothy also enjoyed wintering in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where they met many lifelong friends. He was very handy and a gifted woodworker. He had a strong faith and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Allegan. Above all Harlow loved his family. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who leaves behind the legacy of a life well lived. He is survived by his wife Dorothy; four children, Harlow B. (Sally) Steffey, Jane L. (Stanley) Janco, Harold J. Steffey and Patrick J. (Kelly Westfield) Steffey; seven grandchildren, Kevin (Courtney Morris) and Brendan (Cass) Steffey, Adam Janco, Jenny and Derek (Tracie Lyniec) Steffey, Patrick and Shelbea (Troy Pickett) Steffey; four great-grandchildren, Cameron, Brooke, Ally and his youngest special great-grandson, Hunter; a brother, Howard (Sally) Steffey; sister, Gail Leggitt; a sister-in-law, Linda (Fred) Bryan; nieces, nephews; special extended family, Dr. Michael (Theresa) Ku and their son, Bryson Ku; his caring and special cardiologist Dr. Stephen Peck; many close friends. He was also preceded in passing by a grandson, Daren J. Steffey and brother, Douglas H. Steffey. The family would like to thank all the staff on 8 North at Borgess Hospital for their amazing care during Harlow’s final days.
