Dave and I served together in Viet Nam in different capacities. Dave worked as a chaplain's assistant; I worked in a field advisory unit. Dave was the only veteran I kept in touch with after I left the Army. At the time I served in Viet Nam and early on after I met Dave, I never understood why Dave took such an interest in me. Looking back, it was clear that he saw someone who needed some spiritual help. We bantered back and forth for some time about belief in God and about my behavior. Eventually I began visiting Dave's chapel and we became closer. After my discharge from the Army, Dave remembered my birthdays and would send me cards. He enjoyed telling me of each of his new children. My heart aches over the loss of Dave and knowing that I will not have the opportunity to see him again. Like the one favorite teacher that you always remember, Dave will always be in my memory. My best regards to you Carol, and Tammy, Tim and Jeff. Until we meet again Dave, Mike Russello

I need to say a very big thank-you to the Dave Scheffers family. Your advice over the many years at Calvary was appreciated more than you can ever know. Not everyone is fortunate to have such a mentor and friend. Our thoughts and prayers . Joe and Jalane Van Order.

I remember Mr. Scheffers used to cut my hair. My family used to visit together when they lived near South Jr. High. My prayers are with your family. He was a good man. While he celebrates with his Savior we mourn his passing.

Dave was a gentle, caring shepherd. He will be missed. His memorial service today was a blessing. Then I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.’ ” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them.” - Revelation 14:13

I'll miss the engaging conversations we had while you were cutting my hair over the past nearly 50 years. I have fond memories of your shops and will cherish the times your lovely wife Carol joined us and contributed to the discussions. Good-bye old friend; rest in peace.

To the family of David Scheffers, we are sorry for your loss. David was a wonderful christian man. We 1st got to know him from the restaurant Colonial Kitchen. Our family moved to Kalamazoo in 1975, and it was only a few years after that I started going to Dave for haircuts. Many good discussions occurred in the subsequent years, My son (Dan) and Tim were good friends, The day that Dave retired, Dan brought his two sons from Chicago to have their haircut by Dave. I always looked foreword to getting my haircut, and then having Dave grab that powerful big massage/vibrator and turn me into a quivering pile of relaxed flesh. I frequently told people that I paid 20 dollars for the back rub/massage, and got a FREE haircut. !!! I surely miss him, and his friendship. and as of now, still have not found a replacement barber, Praying for our Father to give the family peace and joy in the midst of their sorrow.

I had the privilege of working for and getting to know Dave at West Milham Styling Center. He was a man of God who loved his family and life. My heart and prayers go out to Carol and all of his family during this difficult time. May God wrap you in his arms and give you peace until you are together again. Debbie

I appreciate how Dave and Carol both reached out to me during the loss of my son. I did not know Dave personally. However, I believe the Holy Spirit allowed Dave to reach out to me as a brother in Jesus Christ. I know the loss is hard for you Carol and family. However, Jesus Lives and Dave Lives with our Creator now. I will pray and ask the Lord to send you all comfort and peace in this time of sorrow... GOD SPEED!

How privileged we were to have the gift of Dave's friendship and fellowship. How blessed it is to know this is not the end but just a short separation. May the incomparable peace, comfort and compassion of our Lord surround Carol and the entire family in the coming days, weeks, and months ahead. Lovingly, Charlie & Brenda

Dave was my barber for 20 years. We spent many hours discussing our respective families which we were very proud of. I know that Dave is with the Lord now and he is smiling down on us. My heart goes out to his family along with my prayers.
