According to his wishes, cremation will take place and a family gathering of celebration will take place at a later time.  Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice, c/o the funeral home.

Age 90. Dr. Edward Carter’s journey through life ended peacefully on Friday, November 16, 2018.  He was born on October 9, 1928, in Kalamazoo, MI, the son of the late Dale and Rika (Rouaan) Carter.  He was married to the late Phyllis Jean (Mannes) on June 16, 1953.  Edward graduated from Central High School in Kalamazoo, attended Kalamazoo College and graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1953.  After completing an internship at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Edward served in the United States Navy as a flight surgeon during the Korean conflict.  After discharge from the Navy, he completed his OB/GYN residency in Dearborn, Michigan.  In 1961, Ed and his family moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan, where Ed eventually joined Dr. C. Rex Moe and Dr. Donald Schaefer to form MCS Obstetrics.  Ed retired from medical practice after 38 years of devoted service to our community.

Ed never brought his work home with him.  He loved to spend time with his family.  Ed was a champion bridge player and enjoyed playing tennis and golf and other sports. He enjoyed teaching and playing with his family many of the sports he loved.  He and Phyllis enjoyed travel with family and had great times at their cabin in Manistee, Michigan, as well as trips to the Caribbean and elsewhere.  He and Phyllis traveled the world together on many tours and cruises.

Ed was preceded in death by his spouse, Phyllis on June 3, 2014.  He is survived by his children Larry (Susan) Carter,  Stephen (Susan) Carter, Ron Carter, and Sue Anne (Glenn Alers) Carter, as well as his grandchildren, Katherine Carter, Daniel Carter, Andrew Carter, Theodore Carter, Tova Carter, Rhianna Alers and Lyra Alers.
