In accordance with her wish cremation will take place and the family will hold a memorial service on Sunday, April 24, 2022, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, at the Freshwater Community Church, 600 East Michigan Ave. Paw Paw, MI 49079 (please use Entrance A and the parking lot across the street from Entrance A on the south side of the building). Memorial contributions may be made to the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors or the Freshwater Community Church, c/o the funeral home

Age 75, passed away at her home on Monday, April 11, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on March 1, 1947, the daughter of Joseph B. Moreno and Delores L. Moreno (Tennant). Jackie graduated from Paw Paw High School in 1965. She went on to earn a degree from Southwestern Michigan College in 1984 and began her career as an LPN. Jackie worked doing her life’s passion of caring for others at Pawating Hospital in Niles, MI, and later at Borgess Gardens Nursing Home in Kalamazoo, MI. She received the Burton Upjohn Award in 2001 for her excellent work in nursing. On March 1, 2014, she retired after more than 29 years of providing care with a loving and compassionate heart. Jackie was a loving mother and grandmother to her own children and many that adopted her as their “mother”, “grandmother” or “aunt”.  She was a loving aunt and friend. She had the mottos of “The More the Merrier” and “Grandma’s House is Switzerland”.  She served as a Den Mother, Brownie and Girl Scout Leader in Paw Paw and Niles. She enjoyed spending time making memories with her family and friends. She loved to travel and live life to the fullest. Jackie will always be loved and cherished by those that were blessed with the privilege to have known her.  Jackie is survived by five children, Ernest “Skip” (Shana) Arter Sr., of Lawrence, MI, Neena (Aaron) Porter, of Schoolcraft, MI, Amy (Chad) Elyea of Kalamazoo, MI, Ranee (Rasaun) Arter-Cunningham and  Heather (William F.) Carmichael, of Battle Creek, MI; twenty-three grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren;  brother, Paul (Patricia) Moreno of Vicksburg, MI; six nephews, several cousins, friends and “adopted family” which includes the John and Dorothy Johnson family, Ray and Mildred Pike Family, Leo and Carol Nash Family, Donna Mulder family, and Tracy Rios Family along with lifelong friends Patty, Patty and Cyndi. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph B Moreno, Delores (Tennant) Moreno Culbertson; stepfather, Arthur L Culbertson; grandparents, Jesus and Maria Moreno and Charlotte Smith; two brothers, Randolph and Joseph “Chuckie” Moreno; grandson, Brenden William Carmichael; the Love of her life, Johnny Johnson.
