A service in witness to Joanne’s life and faith will be held on Friday, October 8, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Second Christian Reformed Church, 3015 Nichols Rd., Kalamazoo. Joanne will be committed to the earth in a private graveside service at Grand Prairie Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Reformed Heritage Christian School, in c/o the funeral home.

Age 70, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 1, 2021. On November 5, 1971, she married Clarence Vlietstra who survives her. She was a member of Kalamazoo Protestant Reformed Church. Besides her husband, Joanne is survived by her children, John (Cheryl) Vlietstra, Douglas (Sarah) Vlietstra, Jennie Vlietstra, all of Kalamazoo; grandchildren, Levi (Rachel), Jessie (Timothy), Adam (Ruth), Andrew, Nella, Jacob, Luke, Caleb, Emma and Caitlyn Vlietstra; great-grandson, Hendrik; siblings, Donald (Sue) Balkema, Mary (Marvin) Vlietstra, Esther (John) Uramkin; sister-in-law, Nellie Balkema; several nieces and nephews; and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Joel R. Vlietstra; a brother, David Balkema.
