Age 72 passed away at his home, where he fought so hard to be, after battling with complications of diabetes and a recent infection. Randy, “Grubby” was born in Kalamazoo Michigan on October 13, 1952 to Ray G. Dunfield and Barbara (Kent) Dunfield, both of whom proceed him in death. Randy has an older sister Carla Dunfield, and two younger sisters Connie Butler, and Colleene Lord. Being the son of the Eastwood fire chief came as a blessing and a curse as everyone in town got to know him and also knew where to call when he was up to his shenanigans with his friends. Randy loved the eastside of Kalamazoo and started his official employment at the Harding on East Main St. right across the street from the fire station where he lived. He attended Kalamazoo Central High School, graduating in 1970. It was through his many friends on the Eastside that he met and eventually married Martha (Barrett) Connor and had his two children Nichole (Shafeeq) Hameed, and Gregory (Katrina) Dunfield. In 1976, Randy started working for Brown Company in the board mill. He remained employed through the many name changes of the mill and finished his career at Graphics Packaging. While Martha and Randy’s marriage was not meant to last forever, their friendship and dedication to their children continued until his passing. As fate would have it, Randy met and married his final love, Ruby (Krueger) Dunfield, who proceeds him. His marriage to Ruby also added two stepsons, Sean (Molly) Flora and William (Jennifer) Statler to the mix. Randy loved to fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting, camping, and time by the beach or lake. Randy’s favorite hobby, however, was garage sale-ing and being on the hunt for the perfect trinket, barging, or deal. You never had to wonder how Randy felt about everything as he was quick to tell you his opinion but also that he loved you. Later in his life he was blessed enough to buy a house in Walhalla, Michigan which became known as the “cabin”. He experienced pure joy when he became a Grandpa to his many grandchildren and he got to teach them his love for the outdoors or spend time up at the cabin with them. In the last days Randy was surrounded by many friends and family that stepped up to help him stay at home until his passing and reuniting with those he loves. Randy is survived by his sisters, children, stepchildren, niece Michelle (Ryan) Morrow, grandchildren, and many friends. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place.
