The family will hold a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ted’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society, or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, c/o the funeral home.

Ted always brought a smile into the Trinity Church office. He introduced me to Paczki. I think of him and Deb every Fat Tuesday. My sympathies.

When we moved to Kalamazoo over 40 years ago as newlyweds, we knew only a few people here in town. Luckily, we moved into an apartment next door to Ted & Vera's daughter Joannie and her husband Steve Griffioen. A New Years morning fire in our building prompted them to invite us over to Steve's parents home to keep warm. We were welcomed with open arms by both the Schaffsma & Griffioen families. Ted always had a great smile and a twinkle in his eye. He deeply loved all the generations of his family, his friends, and was an outstanding example of a true gentleman.
