Obituary
Age 78, passed away on September 13, 2021, at Kairos Dwelling, surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Kalamazoo, on February 16, 1943, the son of the late George and Alice (Medendorp) Ackley. He was also preceded in passing by a sister, Jean Riihimaa and brother-in-law, Gerald Raby. George Jr. was kindhearted, genuine and a joy to know. He loved his family and friends and leaves them with many happy memories to cherish. He was especially fond of holiday gatherings where he could recount treasured stories and traditions with family. He enjoyed being outdoors, camping and took many trips to Northern Michigan In his younger days he enjoyed hunting, fishing and sailing. George Jr. was a kid at heart and loved taking trips to Disneyland in Florida. All of this was made possible through the hard work and dedication he showed as a machine repairman for Bunting Bearings where he worked until his retirement. George Jr.’s smile and laughter will be missed by all those who knew him. He is survived by two loving daughters, Dana Ackley and Carrie (Clay) Maxa; a grandson, Aidan Eisenhardt; two siblings, Joan Raby and Allen (Bridget) Ackley; a brother-in-law, Timothy Riihimaa; many other family and friends.
I didn’t know my friend passed away until today in October. We often spoke and enjoyed our conversations. Sorry he is gone, and that my condolence is the first in his tribute.
My grandfather was one of the sweetest, most thoughtful people I’ve ever known. He always would put others before himself. Everywhere my grandfather went, he always found a way to make friends or make people smile. Even through cancer and the fear of COVID-19, he always had a smile and a good attitude. Im positive he will be missed by many people around him.
