Obituary

Age 70, passed away at his home on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Jeff was born in Kalamazoo on February 12, 1953, the son of the late Carl and Margaret (Sikkema) Ryder. After graduating from Loy Norix High School, he soon married the love of his life Deborah J. (VanderStraaten) Ryder who survives. They made their home in Southwest Michigan and began a family. Jeff was a kind, loving and genuine man who lived life to the fullest. He had a generous heart and was always willing to help others. After retiring from work, he found a second career at NAPA Auto Parts where he grew to love the many people he encountered. He was a loyal Detroit Tiger and Lions fan. He enjoyed taking cruises and vacations; was fond of working in his yard and was on several softball leagues. Above all Jeff loved his family, he was especially proud of his grandchildren and took an active role in their lives. Whether it was coaching a little league team, being there for a special moment, or taking the time just to listen and laugh, he leaves behind many wonderful memories to be cherished. Jeff is also survived by his children, David (Michele) Ryder, Heather Ryder-Hill, Michael Ryder; grandchildren, Abbi and Alec Ryder; siblings, Rhonda (Bill) Wilson, Sue (Joe) Olivares, Randy (Penny) Ryder; several nieces, nephews, countless cousins and friends. He was also preceded in passing by a granddaughter, Kaylee Ryder and brother, Steve Ryder.

So sorry to hear of Jeff’s passing. Prayers for the family. When we were young kids, the Ryders and Campbell kids were close. Jeff’s grandmother, Gert Sikkema, was our aunt and baby sitter. We lived just a mile or two apart and shared good times. Jeff was always such a good person, along with his brother Steve and sister Ronda. It was always warmed my heart anytime Jeff and I crossed paths throughout the years. God rest your soul Jeff, and bring peace to your family.
