A visitation will take place at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home on Sunday, March 1, 2020 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM where military honors will be rendered at the conclusion of visitation. Private interment will take place at Trowbridge Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Kairos Dwelling.
Obituary
Age 89, passed away at home on Sunday, February 23, 2020. John was born in Kalamazoo on November 10, 1930, the son of the late Minne and Clazina (DeLoof) VanderPloeg. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and served his country honorably during the Korean War. John was a skilled finish carpenter and spent his career as a cabinet maker. On December 22, 1950, he married MaryLou (Lyon) VanderPloeg, who survives. John is also survived by his children, John (Terry) VanderPloeg, Marie (Jerald) Conroy, James (Pamela) VanderPloeg and Joseph VanderPloeg; grandchildren, Scott (Jackie) and Tom VanderPloeg, Caitlin (Ryan) Powell and Casey and Courtney VanderPloeg; and one great-grandson, Cade Finney. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Shannon Marie VanderPloeg in 1998.
MaryLou, Jim, John, Joe and Marie…I ache for you all. We can be comforted knowing that he is with our Shannon… hugging, laughing and joking with her… I love you…
