Age 69, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2023. Karen was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on October 20, 1953, the daughter of Gene T. and Barbara J. (Pio) Sluss. She was a graduate of Comstock High School and received an associate’s degree from Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Karen retired from Pfizer. She loved playing the dulcimer and knitting. On October 28, 1972, she married Timothy L. Gillespie, Sr., who survives. Karen is also survived by her son, Timothy Gillespie, Jr.; granddaughter, Ashley Ciscoe; father, Gene Sluss; siblings, Barbara (Dan) Tyler, Gene (Amy) Sluss and Gale (Mark) Lego; as well as several nieces and nephews. Karen was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara and her daughter, Sherry Gilbert. A funeral service will be held at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 PM. Private interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Comstock. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
