Obituary
Age 97, passed away at the age of 97, at her home in Paw Paw, MI, on Monday, November 21, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. Mae was born on May 8, 1925, in Oshtemo, MI, the daughter of the late Ralph and Alice (McCarty) Branch. She was married to William (Tom) Oswalt in 1947. Mae is survived by her children, Karen (Bob) Rikkers or Grand Rapids, MI, Charles Oswalt of Vass, NC, Alice (Earl) Miller of Paw Paw, MI, James (Judy) Oswalt of Mattawan, MI, Robin Oswalt of Paw Paw, MI; eleven grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mary (Harold) Brininger and Mary Branch; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in passing by her husband Tom in 1984, twin brother Marion and brother Franklin; sisters, Mary Jane Oswalt, Barbara Sootsman and Geraldine VanderBor; a daughter-in-law, Linda Oswalt. Mae worked at Paris Cleaners and BeMo Potato Chip Company. The family then moved to Tucson, AZ, in 1974 where she worked as a babysitter and in some private care. She and her family returned to Michigan in 1996. Mae opened her own daycare in 1998 and continued to care for children until 2013. Mae knew how to relax and have fun. She enjoyed playing Bunco, trips to the casino and visiting with family.
It still seems surreal. I feel like I’m going to go in your house and catch you in the kitchen making your burnt toast and drinking your coffee. Now who is going to yell at us for being in your house? 97 years on earth is one amazing feat, and you really made those years your own. You were a feisty and stubborn lady, a trait that you’ve passed down to all of us. I will never forget all of the adventures that we had together. I’ll make sure there’s bologna in the fridge for Riley.
I’m so happy you get to see the love of your life again. You lived a wonderful life and kept your family very close. Gone, never forgotten. Love you Mae!
What a wonderful sole she was. Full of life is a understatement. My daughter came to there home for daycare and it was always wonderful to see her bright smile talking to all the children. Amazing family for sure, you might have your angel wings but your never going to be forgotten. 97 wonderful years on this earth is a blessing.
I’m so very sorry for your loss. Mae was quite a lady. She always amazed me with how spry she was. She will be missed by all. Sending love and prayers 🙏 ❤️
Peace be with all of you that spent so much time with Mae! I understand how blessed you have been. From those years come a legacy of values past on and memories not to be forgotten. Mom, You are and will be greatly missed. You fought to the end and never gave up. I’m happy you are no longer in pain and are at peace. I open your bedroom door every night and expect you to be there at your table coloring. Hopefully, Heaven has markers and books for you. Give Dad and everyone hugs from me. I LOVE YOU Mom.
