Age 96, passed away with her children at her side on Tuesday morning, September 19, 2023. Marian was born in Kalamazoo, on August 11, 1927, the daughter of Howard and Mabel (Han) Adams. On October 8, 1948, she married R. Eugene “Gene” Orwig, who preceded her in death in 2019 after 72 years of marriage. Marian was raised on a farm in Scotts, where she also spent her early childhood before moving to Kalamazoo. She was a great cook and her family especially liked her macaroni and cheese. She liked sewing and taught her granddaughters how to sew. She also liked knitting and had knitted Christmas stockings and tree skirts for all of her family. She was a birdwatcher, especially the hummingbirds. In her illness, she was always kind and gracious with the Hospice workers and looked forward to their visits. She loved her grandchildren and took care of them when they were little. Her loving voicemails will be missed. Once she had her family, she quit working to become a full-time mom and her family was everything to her. Marian is survived by her children, Randy (Brenda) Orwig and Ruth Orwig; grandchildren Ryan Orwig, Lauren (Moe) Faour and Deanne (Steven Thurston) Orwig; great-granddaughter Faour arriving in October; brother, John Adams. Besides her husband Marian was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Charles “Bud” Orwig.
