A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home, 917 S. Burdick St., Kalamazoo. Friends may call on the family one hour prior to the service beginning at 12:00 p.m. noon at the funeral home. Obituary
Age 46, passed away unexpectedly on May 18, 2024. Matt was born in Kalamazoo on July 17, 1977, the son of Gary and Virginia (Cutler) Bottema. On August 26, 2000, he married Amy Kellum who survives him. Matt was a hard worker and good provider. He enjoyed playing golf and recreational hockey. He was a fan of many sports and loved the Detroit Lions. Matt was a grill master and made great chicken. More than anything he loved his kids and was very proud of their academic achievements and athletic abilities. Besides his wife, Matt is survived by his children James Bottema, Olivia Bottema; mother, Virginia Bottema; father, Gary (Nimah) Bottema; sister, Angie (Mike) Bommerscheim; nephews, Jonathan and Joshua; mother-in-law, Linda Kellum; father-in-law, Henry Kellum; sister-in-law, Karen (Chris) Alvarez; and countless friends including his dog , Blue. Matt was preceded in death by his grandparents.
