Obituary
Age 71, passed away on January 28, 2019. Bob was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on November 11, 1947, the son of the late Richard W. and Ruthann (Katzenberger) Zimmerman. He was a graduate of Portage Central High School. Bob was the owner of Sundance Turquoise Store and Superior Construction and a partner at B&B Siding. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed golf, bowling and boating. Bob also loved racing, especially sprint cars and spending time at Kalamazoo Speedway where his father was a flagman. He is survived by his only son, Robert R. Zimmerman, Jr.; brother, Michael (Vicki) Zimmerman; and nephews, Tony (Caitlyn) and Nick Zimmerman.
I am sorry to say it has been too many years to count since I last saw Bobby. I have fond memories of the old Sundance Silver days, and his larger than life laugh and smile. I’m sorry to hear of his passing, and my prayers are with you all in your grief. I will put on a piece of my old silver, and raise a salute in his memory. God speed, old friend.
Bob was a good friend to both of us, we fished and golfed with Bob, he built our deck and installed our log cabin siding on our house, so will always have a reminder of him at our house. He will be missed!
I graduated with Bob in 1965 from Portage High School, last graduating class before it became Portage Central. When he, I and another classmate were in the ninth grade at Portage North Junior High, we went outside after lunch to have a cigarette, the principal caught us and suspended us for three days. Another time, also ninth grade, Bob was involved in some type of altercation with another student. The other student started running away, Bob started chasing him. The other guy turned left to enter another hallway, Bob slipped at the corner and his head went thru a glass sidelite, next to a classroom door. Ah the good old days. B and B Construction installed the vinyl siding on our house years ago. Bob was a hard working individual, he will be missed.
