Age 90, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, February 11, 2023. Elsie was born in Decatur, Michigan on May 18, 1932, the daughter of the late Dick and Helen (Grimmius) Kuiper. On June 12, 1952, she married Sam W. Van Dyke who preceded her in death on April 17, 2013. Elsie was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church of Portage, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She worked as a Key Punch operator at AAA and St. Regis Paper Company. Elsie is survived by her children, Rick (Marcia) Van Dyke, Joyce (Don) Terpstra and Doug (Sue) Bos and her grandchildren, Craig (Elizabeth) Terpstra and their children, Hannah, Caleb and Olivia Terpstra; Lori (Joel) Slager and their children, Maddy (Drew) Ouzoonian and Marah and Jared Slager; Curt (Kristen) Terpstra and their children, Ethan and Aubrey Terpstra; Eric (Beth) Van Dyke and their children, Heidi, Lincoln, Cooper and Deacon Van Dyke; Shelley (Kirk) DeLeeuw and their children, Drake, Jonah and Grant DeLeeuw; Matthew Bos and his daughter, Alayna Bos; and Samantha (Bryce) Myers and their children, Ava and Austin Myers. She is also survived by her sisters in-law, Kay Kuiper and Genevieve VanderWeele and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Besides her parents and husband, Elsie was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Bos and her siblings, Alice (Bill) King, Matthew Kuiper, Betty (Gerrit) Visker, John (Cora) Kuiper, Henry (Ruth) Kuiper, Grace (Arden) Powers, infant brother, Dick Kuiper, Dorothy (Howard) Slager and Dick Kuiper, Jr. and her brother in-law, Don Pastoor. A funeral service to celebrate Elsie’s life and faith will be held on Monday, February 20, 2023 at 11:00 AM at First Reformed Church of Portage, 7905 S. Westnedge Ave., Portage, MI 49002, Pastor Clayton Smith officiating. Visitation will take place at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home on Sunday, February 19, 2023 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday, beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at Alamo Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to First Reformed Church.
