Larry Walter Lager, age 78, passed away Friday, December 29, 2023. Larry was born in Muskegon on September 10, 1945, the son of Walter and Doris (Klug) Lager. Larry studied Education at Western Michigan University earning both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees there. Larry taught machine shop and tech-ed for Gull Lake Public Schools for 32 years. He also taught at WMU in the mechanical engineering lab. Larry lived out one of his dreams living on Sherman Lake where he and family spent many warm days swimming, boating, fishing and simply enjoying the beautiful scenery and wildlife lake life offered. He and Sandy also loved to travel together, camping in their pop-up camper all over the United States and Canada. In more recent years, they spent winters in the Florida Keys where they enjoyed the sunshine, daily walks (often walking the Old Seven-Mile Bridge where you could see shark, stingray, starfish, etc.), playing games with friends and eating A LOT of fish. Larry was an avid reader, loved experimenting with cooking – always looking for new recipes to make for Sunday family dinners and enjoyed feeding & watching birds – especially hummingbirds. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Sandra Jo (Grams) Lager and his sons, Matt (Gail) Lager and Daniel Lager; grandchildren, Magdalena, Xavier, Isabella; siblings, Thom (Susan) Lager, David (Mary) Lager, Mike (Kathy) Lager; several nieces and nephews and countless friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents. |
