Nancy DeBoer passed away on July 6, 2024. She was born on May 3, 1944 in Grandville, MI to Henry and Martha (Wilkinson) Van Duine. She was raised and attended schools in Hopkins, MI. After marrying she moved to Kalamazoo and began working at the Howard Johnson’s restaurant on S. Westnedge Ave. Staying at home to help raise her three children, she eventually re-entered the workforce and was hired by the Kalamazoo Country Club, where she found her career “home.” She remained there for 38 years, retiring as Hostess and Dining Room Manager. Club members recall her cheerful greeting, always remembering their names, and her attention to excellence in service. Her employees knew her as a second mother while learning from her experience. In retirement Nancy enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, and sometimes visiting the casino. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband David Jager, sister Sharon Salters and three brothers-in-law. Surviving are her husband of 40 years Pier DeBoer; children Jeff (Amy) Jager of Ada MI; Mark Jager of Portage and Brenda Jager of Martin; grandchildren Ryan Olivares, Stephanie Merriman, and Sarah and Adam Jager; and five great-grandchildren. Also, stepchildren Terry (Sue) DeBoer, Rhonda (Terry) Collins and Karen (Charles) Barnes; and sisters Joan Austin of Lansing, MI and Barbara Laseur of Donna, TX. |
