Raymond James Cavanaugh, 93, passed away peacefully on the morning of St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Dorothy Makely Cavanaugh, his sons Brian (Kay) Cavanaugh, Wayne (Cheryl) Cavanaugh, daughter Randi (Peter) Allocca, four grandchildren Jason Allocca, Matthew Allocca, Hayley Cavanaugh, and Brody Cavanaugh, and a great-daughter Taylor Allocca. Raymond was born in Hoboken, NJ where he became a celebrated Irish Tenor, singing with big bands in the New York City area and for Governor Edison’s official ceremonies. He signed with Starkie Records and Starkie Studios for television and screen tests, a career put on hold when he enlisted in the US Army in 1942. He was also a talented photoengraver at the Walker Agency NYC, NY for 30 years, and retired as a Police Sargent at Rutgers University School of Medicine and Dentistry in Piscataway, NJ in 1986. Raymond and his family lived the majority of their lives in Red Bank, NJ where he served as the Little League Athletic Director and baseball coach. He was an avid dog enthusiast his entire life, a long time member of the Monmouth County Kennel Club, and an accomplished breeder of champion beagles and english setters.
