November 24, 1923 - A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 247 West Lovell St. Kalamazoo, MI 49007, beginning at 11:00 AM, with a visitation one hour prior. She will be laid to rest in St. Luke’s Columbarium. |

Age 93, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence surrounded by her family. She was born in Kalamazoo on November 24, 1923, the daughter of the late Merton and Millie (Nye) Ward. Susan graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School and went on to earn a degree in education from Western State Teachers College (WMU). Over the next thirty years she devoted her life to teaching children to read. She served in many school districts until retiring from Comstock Public Schools in 1983. While there, she received the Teacher of The Year Award. On May 13, 1950, she married Harry G. Schau who preceded her in passing on March 27, 2002. Sue had a strong faith in the Lord and was a life long member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church where she taught adult Bible classes and was involved in various ministries. She was also a member of the Alpha Beta Epsilon sorority. Susan was a faithful and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and sister who leaves behind a beautiful legacy. Her cheerful and warm smile will be missed by family, friends and all those who loved her. She leaves to cherish her memory two children, Thomas (Judy) Schau and Patricia (Tim) Lisk; three grandchildren, Matthew, Nathan (Gina) and Michael Schau; a son-in-law, Vincent Houle and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in passing by a daughter, Mary Jane; brothers, Harry, Spencer and Edgar; sisters, Maxine and Mary Lou. |
