James "Jim" Lent

October 28, 1941 - May 12, 2026

A private family memorial is being planned. Jim will be laid to rest in the Resurrection Garden of Trinity Lutheran Church, Muskegon. Memorial Contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church Feeding Families Food Pantry (Trinity Lutheran, Muskegon), in c/o the funeral home.

James Robert Lent age 84 of Kalamazoo passed away Tuesday night, May 12, 2026. Jim was born in Saginaw, MI, on October 28, 1941, the son of Alex and Erma (Roggmann) Lent. He received his bachelor’s degree from Michigan Technological University where he also started a Lutheran Fraternity. He spent time doing civil engineering projects in Nigeria with the U.S. Peace Corps in the early 60’s. He then received his master’s degree from Central Michigan University, which prepared him to impact hundreds, perhaps thousands of lives over his years in Education and Career Counseling. He had a heart for serving others. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping with his family. He also enjoyed boating with his cousin, Norm. Jim is survived by his sons, Scott (Mona Khaled) Lent and Chad (Cara Ucci) Lent; grandchildren, Harmony Khaled, Joshua Lent; brother, Donald (Phylis) Lent; niece, Anne Lent; nephews, Troy Lent and Bill Lent; many cousins; and countless friends including his later in life partner, Karen Kimble. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Lent.
