Merle Eurial Hamblin, age 99, passed away at Medilodge of Westwood, on May 18, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Grand Rapids, MI, on November 28, 1926, the son of the late, Eurial and Erma (Sprague) Hamblin. Growing up, he attended Cedar Springs and Grand Rapids schools and was drafted into the Army and was stationed in Okinawa. After being honorably discharged, he returned to make Southwest Michigan his home. On November 5, 1949, he married the love of his life, Lucielle (Taylor) Hamblin who preceded him in passing on April 17, 2021. They began a family and Merle worked hard as a licensed automotive technician. His heart and his home were always open to those in need and his strong faith in the Lord served as the foundation for his faith and family. He was an ordained minister and member of the Church of the Nazarene. He had a lovely singing voice and played Saw on many Sunday mornings. He did his best to live life according to God’s word and his smile, warmth and faith were always shared with those around him. Merel was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who leaves behind the legacy of a life well lived. He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Merel “Junior” Hamblin and Chris (Elizabeth “Libby”) Hamblin; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was also preceded in passing by two sisters, Virginia and Lucille Hamblin; a brother, Gene Hamblin. | |
