A funeral service in witness to Jack’s life and faith will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Third Christian Reformed Church, 2400 Winchell Ave., Kalamazoo. Friends may call on the family on Monday evening, June 15, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Joldersma and Klein Funeral Home, 917 S. Burdick St. Kalamazoo and one hour prior to the service at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. Jack will be laid to rest at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, with full military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Centrica Care Navigators, in c/o the funeral home.

Jack L. Amos age 82 of Portage passed away Saturday morning, June 6, 2026. Jack was born in Cape Girardeau, MO, on December 30, 1943, the son of James A. and Mary Lee (Griffaw) Amos. On September 20, 1969 he married Janice Altom who survives him. Jack lived a full and vibrant life dedicated to his family, friends, and community.

Jack graduated from Comstock High School and went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Navy for three years. His time in the Navy instilled in him a strong sense of duty and camaraderie that he carried throughout his life.

For 57 wonderful years, Jack was married to his beloved wife, Janice Amos. Together they built a life filled with love and cherished memories. Jack was a devoted father to his two daughters.

He was also a proud grandfather to five grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.

Jack had a passion for life that was evident in everything he did. Playing golf, woodworking, and playing pool at the local VFW were favorite pastimes that brought him great happiness. Camping was another source of joy for Jack as he relished the opportunity to connect with people and spend quality time with loved ones around the campfire.

Family was at the center of Jack’s world. He delighted in attending all of his grandchildren’s school events and sporting activities, always their biggest supporter from the sidelines. Whether it was playing games with his family or simply spending time together, Jack treasured every moment shared with those he loved.

Jack’s kind heart extended beyond his immediate family; he was known for helping others whenever he could.

Jack will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will live on through the countless lives he touched.

May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing and inspire all who remember him.

Besides his wife, Jack is survived by his children, Aimee (Brad) Meints, Cynthia (Joseph) Reed; grandchildren, Mallory (Ethan) Hohn, Katie Meints, Cianna Reed, Cadance Reinsch; siblings, Bobby Amos, Glenda Ouding, and Jerry (Shirley) Amos; several nieces and nephews; and countless friends. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Judith Amos; a brother-in-law, Thomas Ouding; sisters-in-law, Chris Amos and Shirley Amos.
