Age 89, passed away on June 23, 2016 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. He was born on November 26, 1926 in Caldas, Colombia to Zoilo and Genoveva (Palacios) de la Pava. Samuel was educated in Pereira and Bogota, Colombia where he graduated from medical school. He completed residencies in pathology in Washington, D.C. and at Roswell Park Memorial Hospital where he met his future wife and life partner. Samuel later worked at Harper Hospital in Detroit, Genesee Memorial and St. Jerome Hospitals in Batavia, NY and San Juan de Dios and Universidad del Rosario in Bogota, Colombia. After retiring from pathology, he studied acupuncture in Florida and became an instructor at the Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine. Samuel is survived by his wife, Irma; four children, Elizabeth and Jim Barren, Ana Maria and Exio Rivera, Teresa de la Pava and Carlos Molina; grandchildren, Katherine Barren, Alex Rivera and Christina Rivera; a great-granddaughter, Ariana; a sister, Lilia de Ferro and sister in-law, Beatriz de la Pava. Other family members include, Fanny Bustos, Charo Guevarra, Christina Guevarra, Mary Hume, Ines Bustos de la Pava, Leonor Pimentel Perez, Alex Pimentel, Luz Pimentel, Claudia Luz de la Pava, Carmen Lucia de la Pava, Juan Carlos and Fernando Ferro, and many others. He was preceded in death by his son, Samuel de la Pava. He will be missed by his family, friends and students. Throughout his life he enjoyed his hobbies of, raising cattle, stained glass, weaving, making wine and beer, cooking and piano. |
