Huge Meints, age 90, passed away on Thursday morning, January 7, 2021 after a lengthy illness. He was the second of six siblings, born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on April 22, 1930, the son of Henry and Irene (Shedore) Meints. Hugh graduated from Ebenezer (now Kalamazoo Christian Schools). After high school, he honorably served our country with the United States Army during the Korean War. After he returned from the Army, he attended and graduated from Western Michigan University, obtaining his degree in engineering in 1957. He worked for Tyler Manufacturing in Niles, and eventually returned to Kalamazoo and worked as manager at Wayside Bowling Alley. It was here he met Marie, who was a substitute on their bowling league. He fell for Marie after he saw her bright red convertible. They were married on May 30, 1963 and most recently celebrated 56 years of marriage. As an engineer, Hugh worked at Checker Motors, Fuller and Clark Equipment in Battle Creek. He hired on with the Upjohn Company in 1981 and retired after 11 years. Hugh loved to fish, and, oh, did he fish, both on his boat and on the ice. He had a love of golf and bowling and was quite accomplished at both. Hugh attended both Southern Heights Christian Reformed Church and Cherry Creek Community Creek in Portage. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved siblings, Ruth Mejeur and Richard Meints. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Marie, their daughter, Jill Kain and their son, Mark (Beth) Meints, along with their grandchildren, Rylee and Lucas, his sisters, Sarah Ann (Bill) Meider and Kathleen (Russ) Harmalink, and brother Austin Meints. |
