Age 91, passed away on January 29, 2021. Pat was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on April 2, 1929, the daughter of the late Reeves P. and Marian (Gould) Comfort. She was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School, class of 1947. Pat was a skilled homemaker, but also spent 12 years at Western Michigan University as a cashier. She loved the students at WMU and would often give them money to buy a pizza, as long as they paid their tuition. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and was always involved in her children’s activities. Pat served on the PTA at Parchment Schools and was a den mother. She enjoyed camping, swimming and spending time at the beach. Her children fondly remember Pat driving them around in her husband’s 1946 Willy’s Jeep. Pat was very athletic and played on golf, bowling and volleyball leagues. She also loved to shop and play card games. Pat cherished spending time with her friends, especially sitting on the back porch with them drinking coffee. She was an accomplished pianist and played for many different occasions at her church, Northeastern Baptist Church, where she also loved singing in the choir. On July 7, 1948, she was united in marriage to Robert E. Obreiter, who preceded her in death on September 8, 1980. Pat is survived by her children, Carolyn (John) Massey and Mark (Shelley) Obreiter; grandchildren, Sarah (Mike Brisker) Massey-Brisker, Charley (Rebecca) Massey, Riann (Curtis) Thorpe, Casey (Mike Sullivan) Obreiter-Sullivan and Kyle (Simi) Obreiter; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many dear family members, including Mike (Trixie) Comfort and their family. Besides her parents and husband, Pat was preceded in death by her brothers, Reeves, Jr. and Richard Comfort. Private burial will take place at East Cooper Cemetery. A memorial service to celebrate Pat’s life will be announced when it is safe for everyone to gather again. Pat had a marvelous sense of humor and a quick wit and will be missed by all who knew her. The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation and thanks to staff at Park Place Assisted Living who lovingly cared for Pat. Memorial contributions may be given to the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission or SPCA of Southwest Michigan. |
