March 26, 2021 In accordance with her wishes, there will be no memorial planned at this time. Jackie will be laid to rest with her late husband at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Kalamazoo. The family wishes to express thanks and gratitude to the staff of Rose Arbor Hospice for their excellent care in Jackie’s final days. Memorial contributions may be made to Rose Arbor Hospice or Loaves and Fishes of Kalamazoo, care of the funeral home. Age 94, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, March 26, 2021 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo. Jackie was born on April 28, 1926 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of George and Inez (Miles) Oxley, both of whom, preceded her in death. Her brother, Harold and his wife, Alice preceded her in death, as well. Jackie had a special bond with both of them. They always celebrated birthdays and holidays together. Jackie graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School. She worked at The Upjohn Company for several years. On August 17, 1946, she married Thomas Cizmadji, who preceded her in death on August 17, 1970. They were married for 24 years. When her daughters were grown, Jackie returned to work at the Merrill Residence and retired in 1991. Surviving are three daughter: Susan Cizmadji, Christine (John) Phillips and Victoria Cizmadji, two grandsons, John (Angel) Phillips and Christopher Phillips, as well as two great granddaughters, Piper and Paisley Phillips. Jackie was a devoted wife and mother. She made many sacrifices for her family. She was a fabulous cook and baker. She made every family holiday and event special. Jackie had many talents, including sewing, crafts and gardening. She was happy to welcome two grandsons and later, two great granddaughters to the family. They brought her joy and she was proud of them. |
