WILLIAMS, Richard W. Age 86, passed away at home on Friday, February 11, 2022, with his family by his side. Richard was born in Big Rapids, Michigan to the late Lester and Leslie (Schrier) Williams. His mother died when he was only three weeks old and his father died when he was three. Richard was raised by his maternal grandparents, Will and Cornelia Schrier in Kalamazoo. He was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School, class of 1953 and earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Education and his master’s degree in Accounting from Western Michigan University. Richard taught business subjects at Bloomingdale High School from 1959-1963 and at Paw Paw High School from 1963-1967. He also worked both full and part-time at the New York Central Railroad from 1953-1967 as clerk, crossing watchman and interlocking operator. Richard served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Kalamazoo Men’s Bowling Association from 1975-1978. In 1967, Richard went to work for the Upjohn Company as a cost accountant in the Fine Chemical Division, retiring in 1992. Richard also worked as an auction clerk for several area auctioneers over the course of his lifetime. In 1964, he married Karen Beach. Later in 1981, he married Betty (Buck) Lund who survives. Richard is also survived by his children, Rosalie (Jon) Anderson, Kathleen (Jay) Weessies and Brian (Dorothea) Williams; step-children, Sheryl (Don) Peck, Deborah (Ronald) Lowrance, Joy (Edgar) Carreno and Laurie Lund; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
