March 2, 1938 - July 26, 2023 A service in witness to Ken’s life and faith will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Heritage Christian Reformed Church, 2857 S. 11th Street, Kalamazoo, with his pastor, The Rev. Simon Tuin officiating. Friends may call on the family one hour prior to the service at the church beginning at 1:00 p.m. Ken will be laid to rest at Central Portage Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Kalamazoo Christian Schools, in c/o the funeral home. |

Age 85, went to be with the Lord late Wednesday afternoon, July 26, 2023. Ken was born in Kalamazoo on March 2, 1938, the son of Christian and Henrietta (Bos) VanDenBerg. On May 8, 1959, he married Dorothy Ann Smith who survives him. He was a member of First Christian Reformed Church before its merger with other congregations to form Heritage Christian Reformed Church. There he served on the committee that oversaw the sales of the old church buildings, and as an elder and a deacon. His daughters remember he and Dorothy also serving as youth group leaders. As a sales professional, Ken sold printing equipment. Ken was very involved with the Milwood Little League Girls Softball Program for many years. He also was recognized by The World Series Umpire Alumni International Committee for his contributions. He also volunteered for several years at Second Impressions Thrift Store. He enjoyed attending all his children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s extracurricular activities. Besides his wife, Ken is survived by his daughters, Debbie (Mark) Buursma of Portage, Carey VanderMeer of Kalamazoo, and Amy (Jon) VanPutten of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Ashley (Kyle) Mastenbrook, Joshua (Kate) Buursma, Katie (Gabe) White, Nate (Roseanna) VanderMeer, Kristen (Ben) White, Shane Lipsey, Zach Van Putten, Taylor (Tyler) Austin and Luke (Anna) Van Putten; great-grandchildren, Ellery, Annika, Lucy, Etta, Eliza, Kayden, Rylan, McKenzie, Kendall, Victoria, Andre, Annalies, Kenadie, Carson, Jayce, and Rowyn; siblings Stan (Carolyn) VanDenBerg, Ron (Lorraine) VanDenBerg, Fred (Karen) VanDenBerg; several nieces and nephews; and countless friends. Ken was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, David Craig VanDenBerg. |
