On March 15, 2024 at the age of 81, Jacqueline Markus went home to be with the Lord after suffering from Alzheimer’s for many years. Born in Kalamazoo on November 9, 1942, she was the daughter of the late John and Johanna (VanStrien) Beeke. Since the foundation of her life was in the Lord, she was known by all to be a kind, gracious, humble and giving person. She had a servant’s heart and a passion for helping children, which led to her career in teaching. Being instrumental in starting Providence Christian School, she taught there for 41 years. Her impact on the children she taught over this time cannot be measured. When not teaching children at school, she cared for her own family and did her best to provide a happy home where all were made to feel welcome. She was an involved mother and spent much time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jacqueline, a faithful member of the Netherlands Reformed Church, leaves behind the legacy of a life lived for the Lord, family and others. She will be missed. On June 14, 1963, she married the love of her life, David Markus, who survives. She is also survived by five children, Rebecca Markus, Lisa (Bradley) Bishop, Cindy (David) den Hollander, Daniel (Betty) Markus, Kathryn (David) Rose; twenty-nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; siblings, John (Marie) Beeke, James (Ruth) Beeke, Dr. Joel (Mary) Beeke, Joanna (Stephen) Timmer, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Jacqueline was preceded in passing by an infant granddaughter, Ann. |
