Age 93, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at the Friendship Village Health Center. Selma was born in Newark, New Jersey on May 23, 1923 to Herman and Bertha (Handel) Paul. Shortly after graduating high school, Selma was united in marriage to Zachary Price on October 15, 1942. Over the next 10 years they became the loving parents of four children. She was a “Grizzly Mom” in the truest sense of the term. Selma was unfailingly outgoing and engaging. She always showed love and respect for her family, friends and coworkers. Selma loved to travel; having visited Mexico, England, France, Italy and Austria. She worked in retail sales in New Jersey and Texas and retired from Gilmore’s Department Store in Kalamazoo. While at Gilmore’s she created the position of “Wardrobe Fashion Consultant” which allowed her to develop long-lasting, personalized links to clients. Selma was an active member of the Congregation of Moses in Kalamazoo and was named a “Woman of Achievement” for her outstanding service in April 2008. She loved classical music, the theater and the arts, was an avid reader, and a competitive bridge and mahjong player. In addition to her natural beauty and style, Selma will be remembered for her keen intellect and wit, her generosity, her wickedly funny sense of humor and her desire to never stop learning. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman Paul and Bertha (Handel) Paul; her husband, Zachary Price and her, brother Dr. Sanford Paul. She is survived by her children, Cheryl E. Wasserman (Martin Wasserman), Jeffrey M. Price (Susan Harrison), Laurance D. Price (Julieann Price) and Andrew J. Price; five grandchildren, Dana, Rick, Kevin, Colleen, Matthew and Ryan and nine great-grandchildren. |
