A Memorial Mass will be said on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Community, 40501 Hayes Rd, Sterling Heights., MI. Friends may greet the family one half hour prior to the service beginning at 10:30 a.m. Marlene will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Twp. Memorial Contributions may be made to Kairos Dwelling Hospice House or Wings of Hope Hospice, in c/o the funeral home.

Marlene Joyce Satawa age 89 of Portage passed away early Friday morning, April 3, 2026. Marlene was born in Detroit on April 28, 1936, the daughter of Henry George and Leona (Biggerstaff) Priester. She lived in East Detroit, MI until she married Joseph Anthony Satawa on April 30, 1960. He preceded her in death in 2014. While married they lived in several Eastern Michigan cities; Hamtramck, Utica, Mt. Clemens and Clinton Township before moving to Portage so they could participate in the lives of their grandchildren, going to their events and being active in other ways. Her grandchildren were her entire life. Marlene was raised Lutheran, but later in life converted to Catholicism. Marlene worked for over 40 years as an Accounting Assistant at Copper & Brass Sales in Detroit. Ten of those years were spent working with her daughter. Marlene is survived by her daughter, Kimberly (Daniel) Stewart; grandchildren, Bryan Stewart, Scott (Cindy) Stewart and Joe Stewart; great-granddaughter, Ava Marlene Stewart; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. Besides her husband, Marlene was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Donald Priester and Henry Priester.
