Age 95, was taken to heaven on Friday, July 26, 2019. Ida was born to Otto and Elsbeth (Kaischek) Czeschin in Kreis Stolp, Pommern, Germany, on December 25, 1923. Ida was born in Germany before World War II and was a refugee during the war at which time she met her husband to be, Erwin. After fleeing the oncoming Russians and leaving their original homes behind they settled in West Germany and were married in 1948. Nine years later they immigrated with two sons to the United States via the Ocean Liner the S.S. America. Ida worked for Jolly Kids Togs in Kalamazoo. After the birth of two daughters and a third son, she became a full-time homemaker. Her contractor husband built a total of nine homes that the family occupied and she enjoyed furnishing and decorating them. In their later years Erwin and Ida enjoyed 17 winters in Florida and regretted not being able to go the last years of her life. Ida enjoyed trips back to Germany, visiting family and old friends. She enjoyed baking bread and cakes, sewing, knitting, crocheting, gardening and eating fresh fish caught by her husband. She also enjoyed watching and nurturing her grandchildren as they lovingly referred to her as “OMA.” Ida is survived by her husband of 71 years, Erwin Haase and their five children, Jurgen (Jan) Haase, Manfred (Kathy) Haase, Susanna (Brian) Sowle, Margaret (Lee Russcher) Haase, Mike (Joyce) Haase; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Helena Schultz, in Germany. |
