Family and friends are invited to stop by for an open-house style Celebration of Life on Sunday, October 18, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Main Street Pub on West Main in Kalamazoo. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
To honor Kent’s life and love of music, the family requests any donations in his honor be made to a local public school Fine Arts program of the giver’s choice.
Obituary
Kent Allyn Morey, age 68, passed away on September 16, 2026. He was born on February 7, 1958, to Eugene and Louanne Morey in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Later in life, he relocated to Kalamazoo.
Some of his best memories include fishing and spending time outdoors with his family and friends. A true artist at heart, Kent took the creative approach to most things in life. A man of many talents, Kent was particularly skilled in woodworking, sketching, upholstery, and general carpentry. Above all, his true passion was music. He loved playing guitar, singing, performing, and even the occasional Karaoke night. Wherever Kent was, chances are there was a guitar very close by. His legacy will live on forever through his music.
Kent is survived by his son, Christopher (Kirsten) Shaw; two daughters, Savannah (Donnie Wilcox) Morey and Jordan (Charlie) McKinney; his mother by marriage, Jeanette Morey; two brothers, Ross (Cindy) Morey, Monte (Susan) Morey. He is also survived by his previous wife and longtime friend, Connie Smith and her daughter, Michelle (James) Meade. Kent also leaves behind many grandchildren, nieces and nephews, all whom he loved very much.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Louanne (Morey) Helgesen and Eugene Morey; stepfather, Charles Helgesen; brother, Scott Morey; stepdaughter, Misty Shaw.
