Obituary
Brian Lloyd Anspaugh age 62 of Schoolcraft passed away Sunday, June 7, 2026. Brian was born in Kalamazoo on June 15, 1963, the son of Lloyd Earl and Joan May (Scobey) Anspaugh. On March 25, 1996, he married Susan Parker who survives him.
Brian was known for his big heart, kind soul and always greeting you with a smile. He also was great at telling jokes and having some of the best one-liners. Brian always looked forward to the annual deer hunting camping trips to Brohman in October. He had a deep love for his family and friends and was always willing to help others. This was revealed even with his passing as through the Gift of Life, Brian was able to donate several organs and tissue to others in need. It gives us much comfort to know that he will live on through others.
Brian enjoyed spending time outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a talented athlete in his high school days playing baseball, basketball and football. For those who knew him well, he was proud to be one of the “Gooch brothers” and one of the founding members of the “Barn Brewers”. When watching college sports, you would always know Brian would be rooting for the University of North Carolina. Some of his family’s favorite memories were annual camping trips to VanBuren State Park, winter trips to Florida, and who can forget when he and Susan attempted to ride a tandem bike around Mackinac Island. For those present, we still laugh until it hurts thinking about it.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons, Joshua Clysdale and Ian Anspaugh; grandson, Jackson Clysdale; siblings, Gary A. (Dondi Squires) Anspaugh, David (Dawn) Anspaugh and Bob (Lisa) Anspaugh; sister-in-law, Lori (Jason) Gaunt; several nieces and nephews; and countless friends. Brian was preceded in death by his parents; and his mother and father-in-law Chuck and Connie Parker.
Susan, Josh & Ian – I’m so sorry for your loss. I hope cherished memories bring you comfort in the difficult days ahead.
Though I was a class above Brian and didn’t know him as closely as many of you, his presence was always bright and kind to everyone which left a lasting impression on everyone around him. Please know that your family is in my thoughts and in my heart. May you find some comfort and peace in the beautiful truth that he is now lighting up the Heavens, where the sun is always shining. May grace and love continue to shine upon his sweet soul. With sincere sympathy, Cheryl Benson-Hunt and Family.
I graduated from high school with Brian and although I didn’t know him well, he seemed like a great guy. Seeing him walking the halls wearing his sports uniform of the season and had lots of friends. I am so sorry to hear of his loss and send my condolences and prayers to his family for peace and healing.
My gooch brother I was deeply saddened by the news of your passing. Sad because for whatever reason our life paths went in different directions and we lost touch with each other. Sad because I never got to meet the woman that stole your heart. Over the past week or so many memories have come flooding back. Playing sports together, doing odd jobs, cursing in your mustang and many other just plain good times. I am happy that though we went out different ways we both managed to find Jesus Christ as Lord an savior, so I know for certain I will get to see you again. Thanks for all the good times my friend rest in peace until we meet again. Jerry (the other gooch brother)
