Charles “Charlie” / “Chuck” Lee Hess, age 77, of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2019, peacefully at his home at The Oaks at NorthPointe Woods.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at the Medalist Golf Club, 15701 N-Drive N, Marshall, Michigan 49068, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Charlie requested that donations be made in his name to your local no kill animal shelter, Humane Society or SPCA.
At the celebration on July 25th, his daughter, Heidi Hess requests that each person please share a favorite memory of Charlie, on notecards provided, to be given to his two year old grandson, Owen Westlee Saylor.
Charlie was born on June 19, 1942, in Marshall, Michigan to Francis and Violet (Coleman) Hess. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1960. Charlie was honorably discharged in 1966, from the Army after two years of service as a helicopter mechanic in Germany. He later enjoyed a 28 year career at Kellogg’s in Battle Creek. Charlie spent his free time doing everything he loved…traveling, riding his motorcycle, golfing, skiing, hunting, fishing, ice fishing, building, fixing and driving cars and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Charlie touched so many lives; he had a story for everyone and will be remembered for his kindness and loving “go with the flow” spirit.
Charlie is survived by his daughter, Heidi Hess; her husband, Eric Saylor; and grandson, Owen Westlee Saylor. He is also survived by his wife, Pam Hess and her three daughters, Heather (Randy) Morrison, Melissa (Marquette Brown) Sayers and Kristin (Matt Bouche) Hanson; grandchildren, Wyatt and Jackson Morrison, Chanel Billmeyer, Christopher Pluymers, Shannon and Alec Sayers, and Nathan and Hillary Sidnam; and great-grandchildren, Lyndsey Sidnam, Kori Knapp and Dylan Hatfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Violet (Coleman) Hess and his great-granddaughter, Nattaly Brown.
