It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of our dear mother Crystal L. DeVries. She passed away peacefully on Monday, May 5, 2025. We were blessed to have all been together to celebrate her 92 birthday. Crystal Louise Klimp was born to Adriana (Kloosterman) and Albert Klimp on April 23, 1933, in Kalamazoo MI. She had one sibling, her brother John, who preceded her in death. Crystal graduated from Kalamazoo Christian High School. In 1951 she married her brother’s best friend and love of her life, Raymond DeVries, at Grace CRC, and together they raised a family of 6 children in the house on Sheridan Drive that her father built and she herself grew up in. Her church home for over 50 years was Milwood CRC. Crystal was a home maker and dedicated wife and mother. She also worked in the Kalamazoo Public school system for several years and eventually retired from the Kalamazoo Public Library. Later in life she and Ray purchased a summer place at Klines Resort in Vicksburg, MI. They spent over 30 summers enjoying their family and many wonderful friends at the lake. One of her favorite things to do was ride around the lake at sunset and watch her husband fish. She enjoyed nature; she loved flowers and birds. She loved to sing. She loved gospel music and could sing harmony to just about any song. She and Ray loved to travel, and they made many wonderful memories over the years traveling around the United States and Canada. Crystal was preceded in death by her parents; a son, David Alan (2009) and her husband of 68 years, Ray (2019). She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia (William) Denny, Kathie (Richard) Wolf, Sherry (Tim) DeHaan, Patricia (Greg) Moerman and her son Col. Michael (Angela) DeVries. She was blessed with nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Her family and friends will miss her dearly, but we know we will see her again and are comforted knowing that she is in the arms of her Lord and Savior.
