On April 14, 2025, David Wayne Sohlden went to be with the Lord. Born in Lapeer, Michigan, on September 16, 1952, David lived most of his life in Kalamazoo, where he raised his family and built a life marked by hard work, resilience, and faith. He was the oldest son out of sixteen children—a great athlete who earned the nickname “Ironside Inside” during his high school football days, and a talented woodworker who loved to bring beauty out of raw material. David was a man of conviction with a consistent profession of faith in Christ. His faith helped him endure many bouts of physical suffering with tremendous optimism, humor, and hope. He was a joyful and generous soul, always willing to give and serve at the expense of his own comfort. Although his legacy includes many failures, it also stands as a powerful reminder that we all fall short of the glory of God—and that whoever repents and believes in Christ as Lord and Savior will have their sins forgiven and receive eternal life. We rejoice that David has now, once and for all, thrown off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. He has run with perseverance the race marked out for him, fixing his eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of his faith (Hebrews 12:1–2). He was preceded in death by his stepson Frank; his parents, Marion and Wayne; and his brothers, Dan and Greg. He will be missed dearly by his children, Josiah (Rachell) and Grace (Brian), and his grandchildren—Evelyn, Isaac, Lina, Canaan, Jude, and Jacob. He is also mourned by his loyal friend, Bill, and many other beloved family members and friends.
