Ernie was born on December 27, 1977 in Kalamazoo, MI. He spent most of his childhood into adulthood in Portage, attending Portage Northern Schools. A lifelong member of the New Apostolic Church, he grew up participating in the youth group and sang in the Church choir. He looked forward to hearing God’s word to see what message was in store for him. Ernie had a huge heart and genuinely cared about everyone. Ernie was one of the nicest people you could have the privilege of knowing. He would go out of his way to help out and to make sure you were ok. As he was a very social person, his favorite thing to do was to spend time with family and friends. He loved listening to all kinds of music, the louder the better! He found enjoyment in watching movies, especially 80’s movies. His favorite pastimes were traveling, camping, having bonfires, riding roller coasters and watching the sunset at Van Buren State Park. He had a passion for cooking, specializing in country foods. He loved animals, especially dogs and cats and had many pets over the years. When his daughter Layla was born, it became apparent that she was the light of his life. Layla, whom he referred to as “His Little Bunny” instantly became his priority. His enjoyment then came from experiencing life with her and watching her happiness and growth.
