Age 88 of Kalamazoo, passed away Tuesday evening, February 3, 2026. Gene was born in Kalamazoo on June 11, 1937, the son of Walter and Agnes (Abrahams) Dyksterhouse. On April 7, 1961, he married Janice M. Loedeman who preceded him in death in 2022. Gene was an avid model railroader. He loved puzzles and reading. In their retirement, he and Janice enjoyed traveling. Gene was a lifelong member of North Park Reformed Church, where he served as a deacon, elder, Sunday School teacher, choir member and in many other capacities. He had a way of making visitors at church feel welcomed. His faith was important to him and he lived it out in his everyday life. Nothing was more important to him than his children and grandchildren. They have many fond memories of him taking them on walks in the woods and sledding in the winter. Gene is survived by his daughters, Carla (Ken) Circo of Riverside, IL, and Cathy (Keith) Finkel of Otsego, MI; grandchildren, Amberly (Brad) Dygert, Joshua (Lacey Schmitt) McCormack, Nicholas Circo, Jillian Circo; great grandson, Henry Dygert; his twin brother, John (Jan) Dyksterhouse; sister in law, Karen Dyksterhouse; nieces and nephews; and many friends. Besides his wife, Gene was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Dyksterhouse.
