Age 72, passed away at his home with family by his side. Hugh was born in Lincoln Park, MI, on March 27, 1944, the son of the late Howard and Viola Carpenter. Hugh had a great smile and wonderful personality. He enjoyed taking road trips, collecting and restoring old cars, remodeling his home and spending time with his family and friends. He could often be found laughing and sharing stories around the breakfast table with his friends. Hugh was a hard worker who retired from WMU after twenty-seven years. On June 14, 2013, he married Mary (Lawrence) Carpenter who survives. Also surviving are his three daughters, Susan (Scott) Mastenbrook, Cindy (Paul) Smith and Carrie Carpenter; two step-children, Jason Ross and Theresa Miller; eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Louise Hamburg and Carol (Frank) Phillips; many nieces, nephews and friend
