Friends may call on the family on Monday, January 25, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home, 917 S. Burdick Street, Kalamazoo. Social distancing measures will be observed at both the funeral home and the church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, c/o the funeral home.

Age 70, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021. Juanita was born in Santa Engracia, Tamaulipas, Mexico, on January 26, 1950. On March 19, 1976, she married Manuel Rios Hernandez, who survives her. Juanita enjoyed gardening and loved flowers. She worked as a planter at Van Boven’s Greenhouse, which later became known as Plants Unlimited. She was hard working. She was a devout Roman Catholic and was very devoted to her faith. She enjoyed fishing and camping with her family. Juanita and Manuel liked going dancing. She was a social butterfly and made friends everywhere she went. More than anything, she will be remembered as being a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Besides her husband she is survived by her daughter, Abigail (Valentin) Hernandez-Landa of Kalamazoo, sons, Manuel Hernandez Jr. of Kalamazoo and Joel Hernandez of Kalamazoo; 10 grandchildren; sister, Lydia Clark; brother, Jose Luis Lucio; several nieces and nephews, and countless friends. She was preceded by her mother, Julia Cruz Alcocer; sister, Beatrice Tamayo; and an infant son, Fidiencio.
