A memorial service at St. Luke’s is being planned with the date and time to be announced. Marguerite will be laid to rest with Ray at Calumet Park Cemetery, Crown Point, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to Bellaire Senior Center or Alzheimer’s Association, in c/o the funeral home.

Age 91 of Kalamazoo, formerly of Bellaire, MI and Lansing, IL, passed away Wednesday night November 19, 2025. Marguerite was born in Gary, IN, on January 1, 1934, the daughter of Charles and Margaret (Lightner) Albrecht. On August 5, 1972, she married Raymond Karabin who preceded her in death earlier this year. She worked as the Assistant to the President of J.M. Foster and later as a Pharmacy Technician. Earlier in her career, she worked for Litton Industries and held top secret clearance for managing records for military equipment. In Bellaire, she and Ray were owners of Apron Strings, a popular coffee shop where they enjoyed meeting friends. She participated in the Bellaire Lioness, Ladies Literary Club, Bellaire Garden Club and the Ladies Guild of St. Luke’s Catholic Church. She also volunteered on the Antrim County Commission for the Aging and Antrim County Baby Pantry. In 2016 she was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for Community Service from Bellaire Chamber of Commerce. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing and reading. She had many fond memories of sailing around the world with Ray and their dear friends, Skip and Nancy McCully. She was baptized into the Christian faith in the Catholic church and was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Bellaire. Marguerite is survived by her son Robert (Amy) Samples; grandchildren, Robin Marguerite Samples and William Robert Samples; great grandson, Declan French; nieces and nephews; and many, many friends. Besides her husband, Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Robin Rae Samples; sister, Yolanda Smurdon; brothers, Charles “Hook” Albrecht and Frank Albrecht.
