Age 77, passed away into Heavan on December 28, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Kalamazoo on March 19, 1947, the son of the late Leaonard and Virginia (Reed) Koets. Michael was a man of great faith, love and profound kindness. His smile, laughter and personality made him a joy to know, and he leaves behind the legacy of a life well lived. Michael graduated from high school and was on a path to serving our country in the Army but was medically discharged and returned to attend college and make Kalamazoo his home. He worked hard as a research technician for the Upjohn Company for more than thirty-five years. When not working he took time to appreciate God’s world; he loved biking, hiking, camping, kayaking and other activities that allowed him to spend time outside. He enjoyed traveling and made lasting memories during special trips, including time spent at Isle Royal on Lake Superior. He was selfless with his time and gifts. He was a treasured volunteer at Centrica Care Hospice for over fifteen years. He also served as an elder and deacon at Hope Reformed Church and was a member of the Upjohn Company Corvette Club. Above all Michael cherished his family. He was a loving husband, dedicated father and grandfather. On January 30, 1970, he married the love of his life, Kathy L. (Vande Giessen) Koets who survives. He is also survived by three children, Michael (Necia Wolff) Koets, Katie Padron and Megan (Eric Hochman) Koets; two grandchildren, Viviana and Lucas Padron; niece, Chris Hencken; extended family and friends. He was also preceded in passing by a sister, Linda Fitzgerald and in-laws, John and Ruth Vande Giessen.
