Nancy Kay Ebert, of Portage, Michigan, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on November 13, 1937, in Traverse City, Michigan, Nancy was the beloved daughter of Gordon and Grace Lystrup.

Nancy grew up as a devoted big sister to her siblings, Sally and Gordon, helping her mother keep them in line — a monumental task at times! She cherished her childhood filled with roller skating, playing with dolls, and swimming in Lake Michigan and Grand Traverse Bay. She often spoke fondly of vacations in Grand Rapids with her Aunt Gertie and in Traverse City with her Uncle Frank and family, as well as joyful Sunday picnics at Silver Lake.

Her parents instilled in her a strong work ethic and sense of responsibility. At just 14, Nancy began working part-time at Kresge’s in Ann Arbor behind the soda fountain. She later worked as a receptionist and bookkeeper at the Boys Club in Ypsilanti after school hours. Excelling in typing and shorthand during high school, Nancy went on to attend Eastern Michigan University to pursue a degree in accounting. She was also an active member of the Pilgrim Fellowship at the First Congregational Church in Ypsilanti, where she loved serving refreshments to her friends and community.

During her college years, Nancy joined a sorority and met her future husband, Jim, who was in a fraternity at the University of Michigan. Together, they built a beautiful family that she was so proud of, reflected in the many cherished photos where she always had a contagious smile that exuded so much love.

Nancy loved swimming, enjoying ice cream with her grandchildren, listening to music, shopping, and relaxing with her favorite Lifetime movies. Above all, she treasured time spent with her grandchildren, creating countless special memories filled with warmth and joy.

She is survived by her loving children: James (Teri) Ebert, Thomas Ebert, Kristin Nolan (Patrick), and Daniel Ebert (Cristina); her sister Sally (Jerry) Waldenmyer; her cherished grandchildren Lauren Slavinsky (Sam), Katelyn Root, Elizabeth Ebert, Aaron Ebert, Nicole Ebert, Vivian Ebert, Patrick Nolan (Shawna), Dan Nolan, Matthew Nolan, and Carley Nolan; and great-grandchildren Rowan, Harley, and Calum Slavinsky, and Lilly, Charlotte, and Lucas Nolan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Grace Lystrup, and her brother, Gordon Lystrup.

Nancy will be remembered for her kind heart, her unwavering devotion to family, and her ability to make everyone feel loved and valued. Her legacy of love, humor, and compassion will continue to live on through all who knew her.
