Nancy Louise Coleman, age 84, passed away at Bronson Hospital on January 30, 2026. She was born in Los Angeles, CA, on May 17, 1941, the daughter of the late Jacob and Helen (Gardner) Levin. Nancy was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Her heart and home were always open to others, and her dry wit and generosity were renowned. Raised in Seattle Washington, she graduated from Bates College and earned a master’s degree from UofM in social work. Nancy was the first female social worker hired at Maxey Training School and efforts in this field have had a positive impact on many people. Her attributes of empathy, fairness and problem-solving led to her acting as a volunteer ombudsman. When not working she loved to travel and took many adventurous international trips. She enjoyed being outdoors and was always at peace working in her garden. Her beautiful and unique afghans are treasured gifts by many friends and family. Her yearly Christmas card which shared fun anecdotes about her life and family was something her friends and family looked forward to reading each year. Above all Nancy loved and cared for her family and she left them with a trail of beautiful memories. On January 6, 1966, she married the love of her life, Emmett Coleman, who preceded her in passing. She was also preceded in passing by a brother, Dick Levin. She is survived by two loving children, Kevin (Marge) Coleman, Leah Coleman; grandchildren Quinn, Amber, Marissa, Crystal, Stacey and Emmerson. As well as great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.
