Age 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 after a long journey with dementia. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones who were singing to him as he entered into Glory. Norm was born on July 16, 1929 to Edward and Mary Jane Shanahan. He was raised in the Lawton/Decatur area. Norm was the youngest of four children and had many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly. Norm served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He worked hard throughout his life to provide for his family; working on high lines in his early years and later becoming a businessman. He had a strong faith and a tender heart, which showed in his life. Norm was also a fun loving Irishman who kept every one he met on their toes and a smile on their faces. He was an avid baseball fan, often watching one game on television and listening to another on the radio at the same time. His favorite team was the Chicago Cubs. Norm loved music and to sing. It seemed he had a song for any occasion, even if there was no occasion! Norm’s greatest joy was the love he had for his family. He married the love of his life, Sue (Larson) Shanahan on June 30, 1956. They enjoyed dancing, vacationing and living life together. They were blessed with three daughters, Barbara (Ambuj), Judy (Bradley), and Amy; seven grandchildren, Kiren, Mary (Mitchell), Josh (Jessie), Kristen, Sarah, Nate and Luke; two great grandchildren; Leah and Grant and godchild, Heather Suzanne. Norm lived a full Christ-centered life and will be missed by many.
