Age 90, passed away on Thursday morning, September 22, 2022. Out of dust God created Pr. Dale. He was born on December 1, 1931, in Faribault, MN, to Bernard and Frieda (Priebe) Krueger. He was the oldest of four children, Jean, Alan and Joyce. He was joined to Jesus Christ in the waters of Baptism on December 20, 1931, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Faribault and his godparents were Papa Priebe, Uncle Ed and Tanta Ruth Krueger. His education began at age 4 at Trinity Lutheran School. He walked about every day about a mile to school and back home again. Following his eighth-grade graduation from Trinity Lutheran, he attended four years at Faribault High School, class of 1949. He went to St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. As a 17-year-old freshman he attended “career day” and while listening to the Rev. Elmer Hjortland, a pastor from a Lutheran church in Minneapolis talk about his life in pastoral ministry, Dale felt called by the Holy Spirit to be a pastor. After two years at St. Olaf, he went to St. John’s College in Winfield, KS and then Concordia Seminary in St. Louis for five years, including a year’s internship (vicarage) in Baltimore, MD, graduating from Seminary in 1957. He then studied under Dr. Edmund Schlink at the University of Heidelberg in Germany. After a three-month trip around the Mediterranean Sea with three friends, Luther Kriefall, Mark Hilmer and Daryl Wildermuth, traveling in a 1952 VW Bug, Dale returned to the United States, purchased a 1957 VW Bug convertible and was called to be pastor of Grace Lutheran Church in Sumner, NB, and Immanuel Lutheran in N. Amherst, NB. He was ordained into the pastoral ministry at Trinity Lutheran in Faribault, MN on December 21, 1957, by Pr. Waldemar Lenke, with Pr. Walther Bouman preaching. He was installed the following Sunday in Nebraska. He purchased a 1946 Aeronca Chief side by side 65 Continental HP airplane. He sold it the following year when he realized he couldn’t afford an airplane and a wife. In 1960, he met, via the good graces of Dr. Paul Maier, Ruth Grostic, a Western Michigan University senior who upon her graduation took a teaching position in Lincoln, NB. Shortly after they were engaged in November of that year, Dale accepted a call to four congregations in Northwest Ontario, located about 250 miles north of International Falls, MN, and spread out of 170 miles (Red Lake, Dinorwik, Vermillion Bay and Dryden.) The Minnesota District Mission Board had responsibility for this territory. Ruth and Dale were married in her home church, St. John’s Lutheran in Fowlerville, MI, on June 24, 1961, and took up residence in Dryden, ON. Son John was born in 1962, and daughter, Joanna in 1963. In 1963, Dale accepted a call to All Saints Lutheran in Livonia, MI. Daughter Mary was born in 1966. In 1972, Dale accepted a call to Immanuel Lutheran in Kalamazoo, MI. In 1997, Immanuel gave him a sabbatical so he could accept the Merrill Fellowship to Harvard Divinity School. He retired in 1999 and took training for Intentional Interim Ministry. He began serving people in congregations in Boston, MA, and Battle Creek, Portage, Coloma, Constantine, MI, as well as Artesia, NM. Pastor Dale is survived by his wife, Ruth; children, John Krueger of Kalamazoo, Dr. Joanna Krueger of Charlotte, NC, Mary (Jeff) Pellegrom of Eagan, MN; grandchildren Loden Krueger, Nathanael Mottonen, Frieda Mottonen, Jordan Dale Krueger (HyunJoo Lim) Pellegrom, Sophia Pellegrom, Jonah Pellegrom and Isabella Pellegrom; siblings, Jean (The Rev. Henry) Mueller; Alan (Joyce) Krueger and Joyce (Wolfgang) Fuerst; several nieces and nephews; and countless friends.
