Age 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday 29, 2017, at Park Village Pines. Robert was born in Kalamazoo, on February 1, 1930, the son of the late William and Thelma Baker Sr. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In 1947 he enlisted in the U.S Marine Corps. He proudly served as a radio operator during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1950. The honor and pride of being a Marine stayed with Robert forever and it was something he passed down to his children and grandchildren; “Semper Fi.” Robert was a hard worker and was employed as a salesman for AAA Insurance for over 30 years. When not working he enjoyed bowling, golfing and fishing. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge #50 where he made many friends. He also had a strong faith in the Lord and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Kalamazoo. Above all Robert loved his family and he leaves them with many wonderful memories of a life well lived. On October 2, 1954, he married Nina (Steele) Baker who survives. He is also survived by his children, Phil (Diane) Baker, Phyllis (Rob) DeWaters, Peggy (Lon) Sparks; eleven grandchildren and their spouses; ten great-grandchildren with two more on the way; two siblings; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was also preceded in passing by his in-laws and a great-grandson, Jacob Baker.
